Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a neurological re-education and repatterning of the oral, facial and oropharyngeal (regions of the neck) muscles. Myofunctional therapists work with the muscles of the tongue, lips, cheeks and face to restore their proper functionality such as breathing, chewing, swallowing, rest posture and sometimes speech. Orofacial Myofunctional Therapists often work in partnership with other medical professionals such as orthodontists, pediatricians, ENT, physical & occupational therapists, nutritionists and many more.
Myofunctional therapy is a series of customized exercises delivered by a trained therapist to re-educate the muscles of the face and mouth to restore their proper functions.
